ABOUT MASS YELL

MASS YELL movement company is both introspection and exposition, producing dance works that are streams of thought-provoking images, always aimed at conversation. At the core of Mass Yell’s creations are community engagement often pairing thier works with artists markets, partnering non-profits, Q&A’s, and community engagement projects- Mass Yell builds up teams in pursuit of both high caliber art, and an integrated art making practice.

Mass Yell has been seen at: The Kennedy Center Millenium Stage; The Smithsonian Arts & Industries Building; Dixon Place; Situations Gallery; Triskelion Arts; Creative Cultural Center; the Center for Performance Research; Theater Lab NYC; University of Florida; and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and has been produced by Sarasota Contemporary Dance, Primitive Studios, and NYC Women’s Art Collective.

 

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, DZ MACIEL

Dance artist & educator DZ Maciel, is unbound by medium finding creative expression across genres in her invitational examination of the human condition.

Her eclectic sensibility is reflected in her career as a performer with installation artists Brendan Fernandes & Sarah Cameron Sunde; dance companies JACKS, BOINK dance + film, Nikki + The Noise, site-specific The Equus Projects creating work with horses, and Washington, D.C.’s Dance Exchange.

As an educator, DZ has worked nationally with communities of all ages, notably at Wayne State University with Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process, at Jacob’s Pillow as part of a their STEAM and Curriculum in Motion program, and with bilingual communities throughout NYC at Arts by the People and with Mi Casita.

 

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, JUSTINE LEE

Justine Lee is a NYC based movement artist and educator who believes in dance and movement as a medium for community and connection. She is devoted to exploring two things in her teaching and performing:

1) pushing the boundaries on performance formats
2) providing accessibility to dance not just as an art form, but as an everyday form for everyday people.
